Located just north of France, the beautiful British isle of Jersey is home to Britain’s most celebrated potato – the Jersey Royal. The first to harvest every year, this tiny spud heralds the beginning of a new potato season and is famous for its distinctive flavour and nutty taste. Claiming Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status which safeguards it against imitations, the Jersey Royal truly is one of a kind. We caught up with The Jersey Royal Company, the island’s largest grower and packer of Jersey Royal new potatoes, to see how the TOMRA 5A has improved quality, increased capacity and equipped operators with the technology needed to boost efficiency in the face of today’s industry challenges including availability of labour.
