Customer story - Mr Apple

Integrated apple solution.
Brian Edwards is the manager of Mr Apple’s Waipawa Packhouse, located in central Hawkes Bay about 45km South of Hastings. They run the latest Compac Technology and the site packs around 60,000 bins a year, which is around 1.1 million cartons. They specialise in bagging on the Compac DLS which on a good day is doing 85,000 bags into different markets around the world. Mr Apple’s customers are very fussy, they want the right number of fruit in a bag, with the right diameter, weight and the bag must meet a spec of 1 kg. One bag that is underweight could potentially reject a whole container which is approximately 20,000 bags. On the Compac 6 lane blemish machine MR Apple use Taste Technologies NIR camera for internal problems in Apples, if they want to specialize in getting water core into markets or taking it out of certain markets, they can. For this they find it very efficient or if they have problems with certain defects they can use the NIR, which allows them to get maximum value out of the bin instead of guessing what count sizes have problems and tipping them straight to juice, NIR allows them to analyse the fruit a lot better and have more control over where to send that fruit and into what markets.
